<p>Along with the common belief that weights are simply not as satisfying in terms of calorie burn, for women specifically, there is also an underlying fear that using weights leads to the development of big or bulky muscles. These concerns, explains personal trainer Dan Sweeney of Christy&#8217;s Health &amp; Fitness Club at Blarney Woollen Mills Hotel, are stopping people from experiencing the impressive benefits of resistance training.<span id="more-40"></span></p>

<p>According to Mr. Sweeney, women, regardless of the weight they lift or number of reps, cannot naturally develop big and bulky muscles as they don&#8217;t have enough of the hormone testosterone- a key hormone for building muscle- in their bodies.
